Spray Tanning and Tattoos

8 Feb 2012 In: General, Tattoos, Tips

Hi all - I ran across this question today on Yahoo! Questions about Spray Tanning and Tattoos and thought I'd address it with this blog post... So here goes!

"I have a tattoo booked up for this Saturday, i'm either getting a pink lily or a purple daisy on my stomach/hip area. (please dont be telling me that's a stupid idea because it's in remembrance of my grandfather). Anyway I live in England, and it's hard to tan naturally over here, so in the summer I do use spray tan quite often. Would the colours of the tattoo darken and go weird if I sprayed over the tattoo? It's my first tattoo so don't call me dumb lol :} thanks!"

Well, the short answer is no. A spray tan is just going to dampen the color a bit, not cover it or change the color. I've had more than a few clients worried that their tattoo may look weird after a spray tan, but rest assured it will still look normal. The trick is to blot on and around the tattoo after the spray tan is still wet. Your spray tan technician should be doing this for you!

As always, email me if you have any questions!

Winter Formal Spray Tan

24 Jan 2012 In: Tips

Well it's that time of year again - Winter Formal!

We've been getting tons of calls from young ladies looking to get a quick spray tan before the big event.  Seeing as this will be the first formal dance for some, here are a few pointers to help make sure everything is just right and you

1) Ask your spray tan technician for the lightest possible shade of spray tan. Don't even think about a dark spray tan for your prom. If you do, your spray tan will take away all the attention from your special dress. The function of spray tan is to enhance your dress (not overwhelm it), and provide a flawless skin for your make up. A lighter shade will also make your hair shine, eyes sparkle and give you a brilliantly white smile. Rest assured you will look great in your photos!

2) Make sure that you exfoliate really well the day of your for your spray tan. Be sure to get all those hard to reach places like your knees, elbows and feet. That will ensure that your spray tan will goes on evenly and also fades nicely.

3) At least one day before your spray tanning appointment be sure to shave or wax. Shaving or waxing on the day of spray tanning can leave the pores of the skin open and the bronzer in spray tanning solution can lodge there giving you a spotty look. Looking for a good waxing salon?  OC Waxing and Aesthetics is where we recommend.

4) The best day to get your spray tan is 2 days before your event. For example - if your formal is on Saturday evening, than get your Spray Tan on Thursday evening. Our spray tan solution takes up to 12 hours to fully develop. Additionally, if anything goes wrong with your tan (rare, but it does happen occasionally) you will have a whole day to repair it.

5) Be sure to get a tan extending lotion - this is very important to extend the life of your tan.

6) If at all possible, try a trial spray tan a few weeks before your formal event. That way you can see how your skin reacts to the solution and also, you will learn how to care for the spray tan. It is great to have a practice run, so you know what to expect.

Some occasions demand for you to look your absolute best, and nothing short of perfection will do. That is why if you are getting married, going to a prom or have some other, important function that you need to look great for, you want to be sure that your spray tan turns out amazing.

There are few steps that you can take to ensure that your tan looks amazing on your big day:

  1. If you have never had a spray tan before, it is important to do a test run a few weeks before the big day. Since you haven't had a spray tan before, you can't be sure how your skin will react to the solution. This test allows you and your South Coast Glow spray tan technician to figure out the best level of color for your skin type to ensure that you look your best!
  2. Don't go too dark. You want the attention to be on you and not your tan! The spray tan should compliment how great you look, adding just a little "glow".
  3. Take extra care in your preparation before the final tan. Be sure to exfoliate thoroughly with the proper products. Be sure to ask your spray tan technician if you have any questions about prep or care for your spray tan, or visit our FAQ page for more tips
  4. Buy a South Coast Glow tan extender kit and learn how to use it to prolong your tan. Believe me, on the days immediately before your wedding, and straight after, you will have (many) other things on your mind other than taking care of your tan!
  5. Make sure that you have your spray tan done at the same salon, by the same technician using the same solution as during your trial (if you liked it, of course). Our spray tan technicians take note of the color used during your trial run so there won't be any confusion if you don't remember what the technician used last time.

A spray tan for wedding, prom or any other special occasion is a wonderful idea and will give you that extra boost of confidence!

The cost and effort is very small when compared to the fabulous benefits.
